We ask "why" before we write a single line of code.

Seven Hills Technology is a Cincinnati-based software consultancy that treats your business goals as the spec — not just the ticket backlog. For a decade, that discipline has turned first conversations into lasting partnerships.

Founded on conviction

We started Seven Hills Technology in 2015 with a conviction that most of our industry had backwards: understand the business problem first, then write the code. Not the other way around.

That meant building a different kind of technology partner. One that starts every engagement by listening. One that treats your business goals as the spec, not just the ticket backlog. One that says "we don't think you need that yet" when it's true — even if it means a smaller contract.

A decade and 50+ engagements later, the company looks different — more people, deeper expertise, bigger clients — but the operating principle hasn't changed. We still won't write code until we understand the problem it's supposed to solve.

LIFE AT SEVEN HILLS

Built by people who give a damn.

We're engineers, strategists, and problem-solvers who chose consulting because we like the hard problems — and each other.

The people who do your work

We're a team of product-minded engineers and designers who chose consulting because we like solving different problems. Everyone on our bench has shipped production software. There are no "resources" here, just people who love building software.

The people who scope and estimate your project are the people who build it. That's a deliberate decision, not a staffing accident — it's how we maintain the context that keeps projects on track and budgets intact.

If something goes sideways at 4 PM on a Thursday, you won't get routed to a help desk. You'll hear from the person who wrote the code.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Six principles, no exceptions

These aren't posters on a wall. They're the filter we use to hire, make decisions, and evaluate whether we're doing the work the right way.

01Transparency

We don't dodge hard conversations.

If something isn't working, we'll tell you directly — and we'll bring a plan to fix it. No spin, no waiting for you to notice.

02Focus

We sweat the details so you don't have to.

We're intentional about every decision — from architecture to a button label. Nothing ships on autopilot.

03Growth

Yesterday's toolkit doesn't solve tomorrow's problem.

Our team is constantly improving — picking up new tools, refining how we work, and bringing what we learn back to your projects. We invest in growth so you get current thinking, not legacy habits.

04Drive

We measure success by your outcomes, not our timesheets.

We're not done when the feature ships. We're done when it's working the way you needed it to.

05Flexibility

We adapt when the plan changes — because it will.

We don't charge you for changing your mind. Priorities shift, markets move, and we're built to move with you.

06Fun

No stiff status calls. No corporate theater.

You should actually enjoy working with your dev team. We keep things light, communicative, and human — because good work happens when people aren't dreading the Monday standup.

What Our Partners Say

Working with Seven Hills is less like a vendor relationship, and more like bringing new people on to our own team, who make it a point to understand our true mission and purpose, and don't mind getting deep in the weeds with us. They involve us in every step of their development process, and communicate so well that we always have a clear understanding of where there are challenges - before they become problems.

Seven Hills has set the standard by which I now measure all technology partners. Their exceptional communication and unwavering support were instrumental in helping the City bring its online portal vision to life. I am consistently impressed by their innovative solutions and forward-thinking approach, which continue to exceed our expectations. Their ability to understand our needs and deliver tailored results has made them an invaluable partner in our digital transformation.

We needed help on scope and design as much as we needed help on development and that's where you guys really helped out.

Rooted in community

We build software for a living, but we're part of something bigger than the work. The organizations and networks we invest in make us sharper, keep us grounded, and connect us to people who care about the same things we do.

Kermit Collective

A global network of independent software agencies that share knowledge, refer work, and hold each other accountable. Membership keeps us connected to how the best shops worldwide approach the craft. kermitcollective.com

Ohio X

A non-profit working to bring high-speed broadband and digital skills training to every community in Ohio. We support their work because connectivity is the infrastructure modern businesses and communities depend on. ohiox.org

Let's build something that matters.

You've seen how we think, who we are, and what we've built. If you're looking for a technology partner that treats your goals as the spec — let's talk.
